Specialist Program

Visual Arts

Components of the program will be derived from the traditional course areas of drawing, painting, printing, threads and textiles, construction and modelling. There will be strong links between all areas of the Arts and classroom programs to create a holistic experience through a series of related activities and events. Children will be encouraged to display work for themselves, the school community and wider audiences. Connections with local, state and national Art providers (galleries, artists, performers) will be made and maintained to enhance the Art program.

 

Music and Performing Arts

The Classroom music program will teach children the theory of reading music and students will begin playing classroom instruments from prep. Computer programs such as Music Ace will assist the children in their learning. All students are encouraged to join ensembles to gain experience in playing with other musicians and to refine their own playing skills.Students will also be given the opportunity to perform regularly at school and in the community. All students will showcase their performing arts skills at the end of year concert. Music and performances from other cultures will be promoted through the classroom program.

 

LOTE - Japanese

EPS students participate in Japanese lessons in grades 3-6. Students are encouraged to use the language in written and spoken communication to:

  • Conduct practical aspects of everyday life through participation in simulations and, where possible, real  situations.
  • Interact with others in socially and culturally appropriate ways and understand, establish and maintain social relationships.
  • Increase their understanding and use of socially and culturally appropriate language through their use of text and speech.
  • Develop communication strategies and decoding strategies.
  • Seek out and understand factual information conveyed orally, visually or in writing and interpret, evaluate and use information for a specified purpose and audience.
  • Express, discuss, clarify and respond to emotions, ideas, opinions, values and beliefs.
